About the event

Smart SMEs: Innovate. Collaborate. Accelerate. is a combination of 3 events targeted at improving the capabilities of our local SMEs, namely the 18th Annual SME Conference, the 19th Infocomm Commerce Conference, and SMEXPO 2016.

Smart SMEs is organised by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI), in collaboration with Singapore’s Workforce Development Agency (WDA), the Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (iDA), and Lianhe Zaobao.

The combined event encourages SMEs to:

17 August 2016, Wednesday

Future of the SME Landscape: Challenges, Development and Opportunities

9.30am – 11.15am: Find out what your business needs to rise up to increasing challenges and stay ahead of the competition with speakers from OSIM, Wangku, and Unity Technologies. *Please note this session will be conducted in Mandarin.

OSIM is a local company focused on healthy lifestyle products such as massage chairs. Wangku is the 3rd largest e-commerce platform in China. Unity Technologies is a Danish technology company and developer of Unity, one of the most popular licensed game engines.

The session will be moderated by Dr Zhou Zhao Cheng, Assistant Vice President (New Growth) of Lianhe Zaobao, Singapore Press Holdings. It will be held in Hall 404.

Keynote Address & Dialogue with Deputy Prime Minister

11.30am: Dialogue with Mr Tharman Shanmugaratnam, Deputy Prime Minister & Coordinating Minister for Economic and Social Policies to discuss the future of Singapore businesses with industry leaders. The address and dialogue will take place in Hall 404.


Retail Workshop: Getting Future Ready

9.30am – 12.30pm: We previously told you about the importance of futureproofing your business. In this workshop, Mr James Fong, Senior Lecturer with the Singapore Institute of Retail Studies, explains how retailers can tackle external challenges like the Internet of Things (IoT) and Industry 4.0.

Attendees will also understand more about the Business Model Canvas tool (BMC) and identify potential opportunities and strategies for current and future retail business. The workshop takes place in Room 300.


18 August 2016, Thursday

Smart SME: Alert & Agile Towards Disruptive Technology

9.15am – 12.30pm: Join a panel of experts to understand how your business can navigate and even leverage on disruptive technologies.

Starhub is one of 3 local telecommunications providers in Singapore. A*Star (Agency of Science, Technology and Research) is a statutory board under the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore, which aims to foster scientific research and talent. Courts is a furniture and electronics store founded in the United Kingdom, and Grab is the Malaysian company behind the taxi-booking app of the same name.

IT 101 for a Smart SME**

9.15am – 12.30pm: Find out how Information Technology (IT) is essential for driving business innovation and growth, with practical IT solutions on how to better manage customer relationships, hire and retain staff, leverage on integrated communications, and protect customers’ trust in your business.

*Please note the session will be conducted in Mandarin.

**The Director of Partner Management for SAP Asia Pte Ltd is the third speaker, so be sure to attend this session if you can! It will be held in Room 311.


What is Big Data?

9.15am – 12.30pm: Find out what Big Data means to SMEs and how to utilise it with Ms Mona Lim, Director of Ascentian Consulting Pte Ltd in Room 301.
